"VitaFlex" is a therapeutic maneuver adapted from Oriental acupuncture, acupressure and reflexology. The term, "VitaFlex"meaning "vitality through the reflexes" involves the gentle pressing and rolling of the therapist's fingertips upon the receiver's body surface at specific meridians, reflex points. It is thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago and was perfected in modern times by Stanley Burroughs long before acupuncture was developed. The theory of VitaFlex utilizes the fact that the human skin is piezoelectric. That is, when even a slight pressure is applied to the body surface, a voltage is generated, and electric charges move accordingly into the body. The currents so generated akin to acupuncture have therapeutic value.
